A central tenet of the Christian faith is the inherent value and worth of all children, youth and adults. Children and youth are least able to protect themselves in our society and are particularly vulnerable to abuse and neglect. First United Methodist Church of Lakeland is desirous of doing what it can to protect the youth and children who participate in this congregation. Since 1996, the General Conference of the United Methodist Church has mandated that each local congregation have a child/youth protection policy (“CYPP”).

Family Picnic in the Park

Who doesn’t love a picnic? Time for some good old fashioned fun at the park. Pack a picnic (or grab some dinner at a drive-thru) and meet us at Fletcher Park at Lake Bonny for some fun and fellowship. Invite your friends too. Everyone is welcome! We’ll bring the cookies!

Community Problems Assembly (Polk County Peace)

Polk County PEACE is a faith-based organization that creates positive change to help our local community flourish. Join us at 6:30pm on Tuesday, Oct. 26 in C-201A (C-Building) for our annual Community Problems Assembly. Participating churches will gather to discuss, pray, and vote for the organization’s annual priorities. We will be hosting an in-person watch-party of the Zoom call, or you can join on Zoom directly from home if needed.

Trunk or Treat 2021

A “Trunk or Treat” is a church-sponsored Halloween event. People gather and park their cars on the street or in the parking lot. They open their trunks, or the backs of their vehicles, and decorate them. Then they pass out candy from their trunks. The event provides a safe family environment for trick or treaters, the children of our church, and the community.

Serve Retreat (Youth)

November 12, 2021 5:30 pm

Join us the first weekend of November 12-14 as we head to Warren Willis for a youth group retreat. It’s $110 per person. We will plan to meet at church at 5:30pm on Friday, Nov. 12th with the youth having eaten dinner already. We will return by 11:30am on Sunday morning Nov. 14th. More information about forms, packing lists, schedules will come after registration.

Abundant Blessings (Children’s Ministries)

Alaska Mission Trip (HS Youth)

June 11, 2022 12:00 am

This is a wonderful opportunity to bond as a youth group and to see a part of the United States that is rare for most inland Americans. Youth will receive 35 service hours for this trip. It is a total of $1600 and the breakdown of payments are below. We will be meeting as a group once a month starting in January until we leave for our trip. More information will follow once we are done with initial registration.
