Family and Friends Workshop: The Umbrella of Dementia: Understanding Neuro- Cognitive Disorders
Join me for this free in-person workshop designed for family members and friends supporting someone living with dementia. This workshop is not designed for the person living with dementia, as the information can be confusing for someone living with memory loss, and questions specific to your family or friends can be addressed.
We offer a Memory Café on Mondays from 10:00am – 11:30am that is designed for the person living with dementia and a family member. Please contact Vicky Pitner, CDP, at vpitner@firstumc.org for questions.
About the workshop:
A diagnosis of dementia can be confusing and overwhelming to the person and the family members and friends who support the person. With hundreds of types of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and vascular dementia, understanding the differences in the types of dementia is important when developing support strategies. Whether your family member or friend has a diagnosis or you are seeking information for a cognitive screening for a loved one, this workshop will provide a safe place to ask specific questions about your situation.
Friends and family members are invited to attend this free in-person workshops of an overview of common types of dementia, their characteristics, and the cognitive and psychological changes. We will also take a look how aphasia (difficulty finding words) effects communication.
